The Fastest Way to Grind Camos (Without Hacked Lobbies)

Black Ops 7 runs one connected camo system across Co-op Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies and, since Season 01, Warzone. Each mode has its own camo track and challenges, and a Military or Special camo you unlock can be used on that weapon in any mode.

At launch, Activision set out three steps per weapon:

• Military camos: nine per weapon, unlocked in order. In Multiplayer most weapons earn them with headshots (snipers, shotguns, launchers and melee weapons have their own kill types); in Warzone they’re earned with eliminations.
• Special camos: three per weapon, opened once all nine Military camos are done, each with its own challenge tied to that weapon’s playstyle. You can complete them in any order.
• Mastery camos: a separate set of four for each mode, which you start once a weapon’s Military and Special camos are done. In Multiplayer and Warzone they’re built on streak, multi-kill and placement challenges. Higher tiers need the tier below across a whole weapon class, then across many weapons, and the final one unlocks automatically once enough weapons are done.

None of these need anything outside the game, and they work in any mode.

• Read the exact challenge before you load in. Special camo challenges can ask for a particular attachment, a minimum number of attachments or a specific kind of kill. Build for the requirement first and comfort second.
• Use the Challenge Tracker. It shows the camos you’re nearest to finishing and lets you follow the ones you’re working on, from the lobby menu or in-game.
• Match the mode to the challenge. Headshot counts go quicker in fast, small-map Multiplayer playlists with more gunfights per minute; Warzone elimination counts go quicker in respawn modes such as Resurgence.
• Plan class by class. The second Mastery camo needs the first one on every weapon in that class, so finishing one class at a time beats jumping between favorites.
• Stack your challenges. Weekly challenges award their own camos each season, so line them up with the weapon you’re already grinding.
• Use XP tokens for the build, not the count. Weapon XP tokens level a gun faster, which gets you attachments sooner, but Military camos count kills and eliminations, not XP.

Once the setup is right, the limiting factor is how many clean fights you win. A headshot, a kill without dying or a multi-kill is much harder to get against players who punish every mistake, and in a streak challenge the current streak resets the moment you die.

How much skill counts depends on the playlist. Since Season 01 (December 2025), Warzone’s non-Casual modes have used Open Matchmaking, where skill is minimally considered. Black Ops 7 Multiplayer mixes Open playlists with newer matchmaking inspired by Black Ops 1 and 2, which Quick Play, Black Ops Classic and Party Games moved to in Season 05.

Even so, Activision has said every Call of Duty has had matchmaking that considers skill, and it lists party composition among the factors that shape a lobby. Ranked is built on skill and rank outright.

Streamer lobbies are the easier lobbies big creators often seem to get (you’ll also see them called easy lobbies). One common way to get them is 2boxing or 3boxing: queueing with low-K/D accounts, because matchmaking looks at your whole party and those accounts pull you toward easier lobbies.

For camos, that can mean more of the fights you need: Warzone 2boxing and 3boxing for elimination and Mastery challenges, and Black Ops 7 Multiplayer 3boxing on Max for headshot-driven Military camos. The other pitch you’ll see is the “hacked lobby” or AFK camo service: hand over your login, and someone unlocks your camos in a modded lobby or farms them on your account while you’re away. It sounds faster. It’s also a route that puts the account itself on the line.

Activision’s Security and Enforcement Policy tells players to avoid tutorials and services that offer ways to modify camos or other content, and treats altering game memory to get gear as cheating. It also makes the account holder responsible for every infraction on the account, no matter who was playing.

A penalty doesn’t have to be a ban to wreck a camo grind. The same policy describes Limited Matchmaking, where a flagged account can be placed in restricted lobbies and may not earn progression.

Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026. Activision has said Warzone takes on MW4 content and progression from MW4’s first season, so the Warzone camo ladder may change with it.
